Buying a car has become as simple as buying a child’s toy, all thanks to the convenience that the Internet is bestowing upon us nowadays. With the continuous growth of the car market, it has gathered eyes-balls around the world, and Ghana is no exception. People absolutely love cars here. They are more of a necessity than a commodity. If you want to buy a used car in Ghana, here is some information that we would like to share with you.

Check out the complete list of documents that you would need before striking a deal:

Sales Agreement:

Although a sales agreement is not compulsory, you should have it for your record. It will serve as a proof of purchase and will protect you from future discrepancies. Also, make sure that your seller includes all the existing faults and damage related information in the document.

Computerized Registration certificate:

CRC is one of the most important documents. It provides car related information such as chassis number, engine number, and VIN number. It also contains owner details, color, model number, registration number, and so on. You need to go through each document carefully. And, if the owner has modified anything like color or engine, it has to be updated on RC by him. Also while transferring the car, make ownership changes on the CRC as well.

Insurance papers:

Each car has to be insured before plying on the roads. So don't forget to transfer insurance at your name. Check premium and expiry date carefully, otherwise, you won't be able to process any claim at the time of an accident. Also, ask the seller whether the car has a comprehensive or third-party insurance. Furthermore, if you haven't claimed any bonus from your old car, transfer your own insurance to the one you're going to buy.

PUC certificate:

PUC is a Pollution Control Certificate, another important document that needs to be check before transferring car documents.

Car buying Invoice:

If you are buying your car from a dealer or a company, for sure you will get a printed bill along with it. But if you are purchasing it from an individual, then you might not get it. However, you can ask for a new sale receipt from the seller. This slip will be a proof that the sale is complete and the payments have been made.

Road-tax Slip:

Road tax is a one-time tax, which the first owner of the car should ideally pay at the time of registration. But if not paid, you being the second owner might have to pay it. So don’t forget to ask for the road-tax slip otherwise you will have to pay all penalties.

Perhaps the easiest and safest way to buy a used car is buying the used cars for sale in Ghana or from a trusted online portal. Also, buying a car online is less cumbersome. It gives you the opportunity to choose your car from the variety of models and colors.
